Black Van Life
#1
Outside Magazine article.  Turns out that living in a van ain't just for white people.  Although you'd never know it from watching Youtube videos.

And why not? Anymore I go to youtube for either music or hotrods. Some tutorials are really good, but a lot are just an opinion .
Good on those two for figuring this out.

Yup, you elaborated much more than I did, but pretty well sums things up. Cool

I am considering getting hot and heavy on my YouTube and go for "real van dwelling". Talk about piss jugs and cold, rainy mornings without an onboard expensive heating system, fighting with your loved one in confined spaces and smelling like wet dog. I despise most #vanlife BS as I despise nearly all hashtag crap.

When I do see someone living in a van or small motor home, only one has been black.  I am reminded of a conversation between two black women in my limo.  One was saying something about "not wanting to be labeled", and that may be a big part of it.  Despite all of the troublemaking black people seen on YouTube, many of them are just normal people.  But they've seen a particular facet of life that white people haven't (and probably can't really imagine), and those experiences certainly must color their decisions.

One of the big problems with living in a van is the attitude of people who don't live in a van or on the road.  We are labeled as homeless, and people look at us with suspicion.  We aren't like THEM.  And the mere thought of having to be like us scares them to death.  It's a caste system, like it or not, and there are probably a lot of black people who think it would be horrible being both black AND homeless.  It's a stigma.

Many of the people now living in cars or vans would really prefer to be living in a regular home (even very small), one that has its own piece of land, electricity and running hot water.  But it's less and less likely by the day.  Instead, there are more people joining us every day, whether they want to or not.  Looking at the downhill movement of America over the last 50-60 years, I strongly suspect we're on our way to becoming another Third World country, like it or not.

BUT AT LEAST WE WILL HAVE EXPERIENCE! Big Grin

Been following novel kulture and Crystal vanner for awhile now. I enjoy the different personalities of youtubers even when they travel together!

Would love watching bLeep tell the unglamorous side!!! I plan to have a channel as well, but have changed my mind on the subject matter a number of times... Will just have to wait and see what happens when I'm finally out there!

Crystalvanner makes women and nomads look bad in my eyes. Over dramatic and attention grabbing. But that is just my opinion. I know she is looked up to by many in the community and appreciate her effort. I don't know how many heard of her fiasco at Jamie's build, but it damn near shut the whole thing down.

Been watching Crystalvanner for a little while now; and with each new video she puts out I have to increasingly agree.
