Any Knowledge About Freeze Dried Foods
#1
Huh Today I cleaned out my frig as the trash pickup was a day early.  I've noticed that I'm throwing away a lot of food over the past few months.  I mean A LOT of food.  Today it was bottles of dressings and sauces, homecooked food, fast food, unopened & way out of date foods, fresh meats, even angus ground beef.  Some of this waste is due to me just not being able to clean out the frig or loss of appetitite here lately.    What ever the reason I need to stop being so wasteful.  NOW!!  If it needs refrigeration I've probably thrown some away.  Seems to me I'm not saving any money when I BOGO if I end up throwing 1/2 of whatever it is to the animals on in the trash.

Sometimes I watch Tiny House Prepper on you tube.  He is a Thrive Life rep.  Thrive Life is having a "Black Friday" sale beginning tomorrow.....whoops Today 11/22.     Bill and Elizabeth use Thrive products and have done some cooking with it on their videos.  I've also watched others doing comparisons of various product lines.

I've been loking at Thrive and Mountain House or is it Mountain Home, also others on line.  ON NOT ONE SITE is there a conversion/comparison chart that I've found to tell a person how manys pounds of meat or how many cups of veggies/fruits/whatever the reconstituted produt is.  Most seem to sell by the number of servings.  Then don't tell you the reconstituted serving size.

I even found that some "survival foods" are sold on line at Wal Mart.  Who'd a thunk it?

Does anyone here have any knowledge of or experience with these types of foods that are produced and packed for long term storage?

I have mountain house, in pouches and #10 cans. Its good stuff. The pouches are a bit pricey for one meal but with the length of time to eat, its worth it.
I cant be much help of comparison since they are buried in my closet. But they are good. #10 cans you get your moneys worth for $30 (give or take) depending on what meal. Sorry, not much help.

As far as I'm concerned the sale was a bust.  Free shipping was on $100 or more.  I may have known that.  I wanted to try out mainly veggies & the smaller cans were only about $1.50 to $3 off.  The ground beef and sliced beef were way too high priced for me to just experiment with.

I did find a lot of dehydrated and maybe some freeze dried foods too on Wal Mart on line.  Free shipping to the store.
I'm going to check those out again.

Ever considered M.R.E.'s? (meal ready to eat) They last quite a while, with no special facilities needed to eat them.

Look for those MRE's at survival stores online. Most of them are sold out. Preppers are busy these days...
