Fridge Defrost--Help?
#1
My refrigerator stays around 37 degrees until a couple days ago. It kept reading 42 degrees. So I felt like it was time to defrost and clean it. I had major ice forming in the freezer.

It took me 6 hours to defrost it...with doing a couple "no no" things according to an article I read. I used a hair dryer (some) and pried chunks of ice out of the freezer.

So...at 1:30 PM, I turned my fridge back on (on electric)--my thermometer showed it was 75 degrees inside (the room temperature). It's now 6pm and it's 54 degrees inside. I've played with the slider (moved up then moved down then back up some). Am I impatient? I felt like it would be cooler in there by now. It's been a really warm day today too.

Is the freezer @ freezing temp?
That's where the cold for the fridge section comes from in an RV fridge.
Is all the contents still or back in there and was it all warm too ?
The heat of the day isn't helping , wait and see in the morning.
It might take a little longer if it's still hot outside but you should see a cooler temp by then so don't worry be happy.
(Typical RVers ideal scenario practice is cool the thing down empty a day ahead of loading it up , then add contents already cooled down in another fridge...Your situation may vary so just get as close to that as you can )
stay tuned

The freezer definitely seems to be freezing. I don't have a temp gauge in there, but I can tell it's at freezing. No, I haven't put anything back in yet. I have everything in another fridge/freezer right now. I won't always have access to the extra fridge though.

I'm gathering that it would have helped to have some frozen water bottles or something to put in there after I turned it back on.

The slider works by making it colder the higher on the fin it sits. The top of the fin gets cold last.

My fridge usually takes at least 24 hours to get cold when warmed all the way up.

I hate that darn slider thingy LOL

yea if you worked on it a bit and did all that I would give it easily a full day or so to 'cool' and get that number down in the lower part of the fridge cause if super hot your fridge has to fight for sure........had those issues but they never were 'bad' with a bad fridge or anything like that. So hope it works out best for you and let it just cool for a while and see where ya stand.
