Opinions: Aluminum vs Steel Utility Trailer

Galvanic corrosion is probably what you are referring to.

The very first word in the thread title is: "Opinions".

So we can assume that "opinions" are exactly what the OP is looking for.

Or so it seems to me, and yes, that is my opinion!

Get Smart, maybe they shood start making steel airplanes if alum is no good. Works for many years flying. They need light weight, strength, durability, fuel savings & reasonable cost. Alum works for the airlines & private planes very well.

Aluminum flexes and can be bent back in more cases than steel.- ??? give aluminum good stink eye and it stress fractures, about as unflexable as it comes

Aluminum is a not as hard on the environment to produce. -aluminium takes massive amounts of electricity to make which at best comes from a giant windmill chopping up hundreds of birds

aluminium is fine for sheathing and pretty things but for structural integrity,i'll pass

once bought a high dollar golf driver, state of the art best aluminum ever, one trip to the driving range and multiple stress fractures, took it back and got a taylor made

I think aluminum trailers have suffered the " I heard they are not as good" reputation, though there are millions of aluminum trailers on the road so they aren't suffering that bad.

I've had several and if you live in a state with road salt aluminum trailers are your best friend. If you have to be careful of your towing weight, aluminum trailers are your best friend. If you aren't big into maintenance, aluminum trailers are your best friend.

I bet for every aluminum trailer with a cracked weld, there's a steel trailer with a crack weld too. Welds can fail, neither aluminum nor steel is immune to that fact.

Though I prefer aluminum, i've had several steel trailers that left me nothing but happy. As with anything, you just have to do your research, avoid the hearsay and go with what is best for you.
