Heron, what I read said they cover 80% and you get stuck with the rest. I’m approaching it with the “can’t get blood out of a turnip” view. Big Grin

If you don’t have a secondary,  the hospitals will work with you on the balance. If you do have a supplemental you have to pay full balance due. It doesn’t make sense to me.

I have successfully had hospitals write off my share, I have standard Medicare parts A and B. I also pay for a silverscript drug plan.

Hospitals usually do have a fund for that, thank goodness, Blanch. I'm paranoid as hell, though, because we'll have that untouchable savings to fly us home, if necessary, and we'll likely be over the guidelines, which I've consistently been, over my lifetime. And only by the teeniest bit, usually. :'(

I just have to get some damn sleep and do some good research. If I can get just a little uninterrupted time.

And, Queen, yes. 20% of the last six months would have done us in. Damn, damn, damn.

yea that 20% of a big number ends up with a big 20% you can owe, that ain't no fun. Medical can wipe one out very fast and sad thing is it is at the worst time ya know....I mean it is medical~ you're sick, maybe disabled fully etc. and you get slammed with big bills? ugh. talk about kicking a dog when it's down

It is just another way for government to claim wealth from the middle class.

I didn't know that hospitals were government owned. Maybe some county hospitals but the big ones here aren't.

My doctor was the owner of his practice before O care. Then he was forced to sell out.

I'm not sure what to do either. I currently have Medicare Advantage (Humana) which was great before I hit the road but useless now. I also have VA to fall back on, but having served only one enlistment I have a lower priority tier. So if Congress cuts the VA's budget, basically screwed. I will probably switch back to straight Medicare. Of course I could save $$ if I cancelled Medicare, but it would be risky to rely on VA.
