Bodie State Park
#1
Bodie is off of Hwy 395 south of Bridgeport, California. It is an old west mining town from the 1800’s. It was mostly abandoned when California bought the town and turned it into a State Park. The park is kept in “an arrested state of decay” and maintained as an abandoned ghost town. There are houses that you are able to go inside of, but most are locked. It has a museum and some pretty amazing architecture from that time period. [Image: a7754ce8563329c0009102c13cecb1ee.jpg]
A view of about half of the remaining town.

The remnants of the stamp mill. There are usually two tours a day through this area.

Of course I found an old vehicle to photograph.

If you like ghost towns this place is a must see.
There is camping/boondocking in the National Forest near by. The road into the park gets a bit rough when the pavement ends so I wouldn’t recommend taking a trailer or large RV back in. It’s $8 per person. The park is closed in winter and closes at 6pm in the summer.

It’s a favorite place of mine, I’d encourage anyone doing HWY 395 to check it out.

Been there! It was a long time ago at this point - more than 20 years ago. Your photographs are beautifully done. Thanks.
Peace...

Oh, just one question - was the road to get in there still 13 miles of unpaved washboard?
Peace...

It’s now paved until the last three or four miles.
