Desert Center
#1
Desert Center is a mostly abandoned town about 50 miles North of Blythe.

Some sort of employee housing for a going concern that hasn’t been going for a very long time.

I found a lovely 280Z stashed in an abandoned garage.

The somewhat famous abandoned elementary school in Desert Center.

I like them all, but the second one with the houses and clouds is my favorite.

At the abandoned elementary school is a gorilla art installation.

Hanging from the ceiling are all these banners of politicians and industry leaders who rule our world and they are all looking down and laughing. As you stand in the abandoned classroom with all the banners looking down at you - you see graffiti at the back of the room that says
“They laugh at us”.
I wish my panorama would post, but it just won’t, too bad as it really gives some perspective on how large the art is.

This was a pretty amazing find, I’ve been out to photograph it several times in the last six months. It’s really impactful to see it in person, if you are ever near Desert Center.

Desert Center has kind of an interesting history, but why anyone would want to live there is beyond my understanding.  I went there  2-3 times when visiting my brother, who worked at the nearby Eagle Mtn. Mine before it closed (eons ago).

See the Wikipedia article, and you'll recognize some people who would fit in well at YARC.
