Thanks for all the kind support & donations!

So far, there's been 10 unique donors, and $2089.05 net received.
(The odd number is due to PayPal fees (bank-to-bank "friends & family" is free, but all other transactions have fees)).

Impressive for a completely adhoc campaign, with zero committees! Big Grin
Thanks everyone! Big Grin

The total cost of the 2nd breakdown was about $3300 (including 2 tows, 2 motels, and a visit to a different repair shop (in Rhinelander) to fix the ignition timing).
Yes, the labor charge went way over their estimate, as did the time so I had to stay at the 2nd motel 8 days instead of 2. Sad
The first breakdown was about $2600 (they arranged for me to stay free at a local RV park, which saved me around $500).

Those are fairly accurate estimates, however I'll be posting detailed expenses, once I'm in a saner location and have caught up with some volunteer work. Smile

Sorry for the delay replying.
I forgot to put my login credentials somewhere I could get them, and found out after I left the 2nd motel that the Post Office where I'd sent my laptop car charger had returned it. I've been limited to a loaner Chromebook, while I wait for a replacement charger. Sad
Finally emailed a sysadmin friend to see if there was an old backup of my VD credentials, which he set up in an online file for me.

They finished the repair work on March 12, I drove to Rhinelander, engine seemed rougher than I remembered, but it also stayed at the first notch of heat, which was Shiny. Smile
Next morning, warmed up engine, got on road, engine stalled, took several tries to restart, I pulled into the next plaza (huge parking lot), checked oil/etc, nothing looked off (except one thing that turned out to not be an issue). Restarted & drove around big parking lot, it stalled few more times. PM'd Brian, since he's a Dodge Wizard (and often available & always helpful). Discussed symptoms, and he recommended I needed eyes on it, so tried a local shop that turned out to be the best so far. Smile
Ignition timing was off by about 18 to 20 degrees. They fixed it the next day, and I got to the Eau Claire area last Friday, to find out my laptop car charger had been sent back two days before. Grrr!Argh!
Ordered a replacement, and have been camped out at Walmart & Library since then.
Just got a status update that the charger has arrived at the regional PO, so I'm expecting to head South within a couple of days.

I've got a great pic of Fawkes on the 2nd wrecker bed, with lots of snow & ice. I'll post it once I can access my laptop. Smile
When I can afford it, I really should buy a replacement battery for the laptop. It's been frustrating having 200 Watts of solar panels, but no way to use it for my one key use case.
I was pleased that the house batteries & panels are talking to each other (after almost 2 months of mostly very cold weather & much time covered in snow), and all seems fine. I can charge my portable DVD player fine (it came with a car charger), so I started another Firefly slow marathon. Big Grin

Hmmm, sounds like me & Fawkes. Wink

Forgot to mention that I was afraid I'd have lost my meager van driving skills after 2 months without wheels.
I was delighted that we felt right. Smile
I was still run down, so chose to take small legs on my trip to the Eau Claire area.

I've been parking 3 times per day (fast food restaurant to recharge Chromebook, Library, Walmart), and have been improving my still novice van parking skills. I now almost always get well between the lines, and usually back up at the Library (facing South for free solar heating). Smile

After being hauled to the shop that did the engine replacement (after several major snow storms):

Pic taken by the shop's admin gal (it belatedly occurred to me that the file attachment should still be on the server).
I took pics of Fawkes about a week earlier, covered in even more snow. I'll post them once I have laptop power & can download from my camera. Smile

That is some impressive amounts of snow. Glad my parents moved to Texas from Iowa when I was a kid. Snow was fun as a kid but not so much as an adult.

Brian... LOL! Smile

Yeah, when I returned to it after about a month at the first motel, I was shocked.
It looked like a hill with just some of the windows showing. Smile
I wish I'd had my camera with me, so I could have taken pics (camera was inside).
Only good thing about the snow was that I was able to use the rear entry for the next week and a half, which was quite handy (yes, the snow was literally that high, after some mild stomping by me).

Just got word the laptop car charger has arrived at my PO box. Will leave tomorrow am, at long last! Smile

I'll be returning the Chromebook to the Library, so won't have easy access to Paypal, afterwards (it doesn't work on my ancient tablet, and my laptop has to be locked-down-cybersafetywise).
Quick Dumb Question:
Several people have mentioned they won't use Paypal (my sympathies!).
Does "GoFundMe" give you folks better options?
Could someone quickly research that?
If it's easy, I could set that up tonight or tomorrow am.
No pressure.
On my main anti-spam project, there's a few people I've known for more than a decade, and trust fully, so will ask for their help in setting things up for me (yes, I lecture & lecture them, but most still aren't as obsessive about security as I am).

I'm still in awe of how much y'all donated! The engine itself was paid for within a couple of days. Smile

Woohoo! On the road again! Don't know why that tune always comes into my head when talking about heading out. And a bummer too as you will be driving on the weekend. Watch out for the idiots.

Thanks Brian! Smile
Don't worry, I'll be doing the first two legs (to PO box town then back to pseudo-civilization) on minor-ish roads, and will spend about one day doing laundry etc.

Monday will be the drive thru the St. Louis area. #eek

Does anyone have any tips for that general region?
A free/cheap shower would be nice (my last shower was March-12). Smile

When I went thru St Louis I found it easier to stay on I-270 and go around the the city.  I went thru the I-44 to I-55 but found I-270 to work better for me.  I was going from Texas to Indiana a couple times a year to see my Mom and came and went via I-44 and I-70.  Going the I-270 route gives you more opportunities to get off the road for gas or food.  Going thru the downtown I-55
was too confining for me.  Good luck.  Mom ain't here now and one of the blessings is I DON'T EVER HAVE TO GO THRU ST LOUIS AGAIN!
