Been looking into this, no experience with any of it. Find link to discussion at bottom of post. The rest here is just copy\pasta from link...

"Replacing Carburetor Jet for High Altitude Operation
Honda EU2000I

Tools Needed: Flat blade screwdriver, 8mm socket, and 10mm socket.

1. Turn ENGINE SWITCH to OFF.
2. Turn FUEL TANK CAP VENT LEVER to OFF.
3. Remove the MAINTENANCE COVER.

6. Remove HEX BOLT holding the black air box on. (8mm)
7. Remove TWO NUTS holding the air box and carburetor. (8mm)
8. Slide AIR BOX off carburetor studs and fold down out of the way.

11. Remove CARBURETOR JET by unscrewing with flat blade screwdriver and replace with NEW JET. Do not overtighten.

4000 – 7000 ft. 60
6000 – 10000 ft. 58
Carburetor: KEI HIN

Note: Engine horsepower decreases about 3.5% for each 1,000-foot increase in altitude. The effect on horsepower will be greater if no carburetormodification is made."

It will be running too rich.  That will lower the horsepower a little bit but not nearly as much as taking away the air does.  The spark plug may get too much carbon deposit.

The other direction, too lean, is where you get engine damage like burned exhaust valves and a hole burned through the piston.
Say good night, Dick.

Thank God my Onan has a little thumb screw to adjust if I wanted to adjust it.

Remove side cover
adjust for sea level to 10,000 ft
put cover back on

Unfortunately it is under the van and requires crawling underneath to adjust. I leave it set for about 3,000 ft and don't stress over the lost power at altitude or worry about burning a hole through the piston at lower altitudes. I never run it more than about half load anyways. Change plug every two oil changes. Plug has a little carbon on it but not much.

/\ That would be great! I'm looking at like a cheap Westinghouse genny. I might still splurge on a Yamaha or Honda, but prob go the cheaper route and baby the hell outta it.

ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN BUYING A GENERATOR IS DECIBEL LEVEL. THE CHEAPER THE GENERATOR THE WORSE THE EFFECT ON ANYONE NEAR YOU.

The open frame (contractor) generators are the loud ones. The inverter generators are quiet.

There is no such thing as a "quiet" generator, only quieter. I'd rather have a considerate neighbor with a Champion 3500 open frame than a inconsiderate one with a Honda 3000 inverter generator.

The inverter generators are quiet enough that I don't hear them in my van, day or night (hence, quiet). The open frame ones on the other hand I can hear a long way off.
