Van as a tow vehicle?

Towing with a van is great, I got a 2010 Chevy Express 3/4 ton. All the covered storage is like having two rvs. I pull a RPod.

Works good for me so far. Have not needed 4x4 knock wood. Have 2 vans to choose from for towing. Chevy and Ford 1 ton. A 3/4 ton worked well in the past but the 1 ton have stronger transmission. 
 Just remember the worst for a automatic is excess heat.

piggy-backing on this thread, my ever changing van dwelling plans are currently to get a
Honda Odyssey to pull a smaller trailer like a Casita. i know it will pull it but wondering how
it will do if we ever venture to the mountain passes of Colorado? we won't have much money
so we will need to stick to a very fuel efficient vehicle. and we will probably be sticking to winter
travel...thanks, jim

a v6 would be better than a 4l,the week link would be the trans so a trans cooler would be a must,take your time in the slow lane and gear down when needed,overdrive only on the flats

Don't forget you have to stop said trailer and it may be on the downhill side of the mountain.

Your best bet with a smaller tow rig would be to get a trailer with brakes and a brake controller installed in your tow vehicle. As Gary mentioned a trans cooler would be highly recommended as well, especially if you're going to be towing in the mountains.

Stick within the towing ratings. It ain’t moving it; it’s stopping it that is the bitch. Feeling comfortable with something behind is very important. Stress is no fun.

I had a 25 foot speed boat on a dual axel trailer. Towed it with an SRT10 quad cab Viper truck. Loads of horsepower. As I towed it about 10 miles to the lake on the weekends on flat roads I never bothered to fix the brakes. Then one weekend a friend invited me up to a mountain lake. Going up wasn’t an issue. Coming down without brakes was hairy. The trucks brakes were four piston Bembos, no issue getting hot. The sway and ass push on corners had me crawling down at maximum pucker.
