Hey all. Haven’t been around in recent memory but things have finally shaken out and we’re off to buy our van tomorrow!! We were both caught up in the Windfall Elimination BS were they took a chunk of our social security because we had state pensions, now that that’s overturned my honey’s social security went up 55% and mine went up 25% (to where they were supposed to be originally), so money isn’t painfully tight and travel is actually an option.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello again.

Not exactly sure what to say here as I generally try to keep to myself for the most part (Pirate Camp attendees can attest to this). Still feel a bit like a greenhorn in the van dwelling community having only been out just over a year, but making the most of it as I can. Though I do tend to procrastinate a lot (which I'm sure frustrates ABNorm to no end) I do eventually get things accomplished (just don't ask about my van build because even after a year I've barely started...). I believe it might be what some call 'planning paralyzation'.

Anyway, hoping to at the very least not be a negative influence on the forum and will help whenever I am able.

Hey fellow wanderers. My name is Brian, my home base is in Florida, and I've got a van that I'll never be done adding to
I stumbled upon a Truckin' magazine from the mid 70's in my teens, early 00's. Fell in love with the Cragars, VenturiVents, over the top interiors, and knew I'd have a van someday. Well, I don't have a classic, though it's a 2006 so it's getting there in due time lol
I bought my E150 in December of 2019 (terrible time to make any plans, as we noticed a few months later). I wanted something low top, small, that looked like any other van. Stealth was important, until later down the line I added a couple of solar panels on the roof and a MaxFann. Still love my little low top though.
I didn't actually start throwing things at my van until early last year. I was just using it as a daily driver to get me to and from work, and taking random, spur of the moment trips a few hundred miles out, roughing it in the van, and heading back.
Still not really done, but since adding the solar, 100ah lithium, small pure sine inverter, 40qt compressor fridge, bed platform, memory foam mattress, and other small odds and ends, I've taken it for a long stretch in the Appalachia region and enjoyed every minute of it. It may not be done, it may not be pretty, but I've gotten by with much less for much longer.
I'll cut it short because I can ramble for ages. I'm in the process of saving up now, taking off again, and hopefully getting a workamping gig soon. Hope to see y'all on the road. Safe travels.

My first build was an Iveco Daily LWB, high roof, 6 solar panels permanently fixed to roof, inverters, charge controllers, multiple batteries, fridge, large custom made bed that fold down from wall, washing machine dryer, diesel heater under floor, simple shower tub, LPG gas tank cooker, 12 volt water pump, curtain, porta potti, lived in that for 3 years full time, traveled many countries.

Now I am in a much smaller Vauxhall Vivaro 2016, rock n roll bed, portable folding solar panel, small jackery that charges during driving, LPG gas tank heater, porta potti, folding shower tub, 12 volt pump, water container that i pick up hot water from a tap during travels.

Once you have lived with large vehicle you can decipher what is essential. The only main difference is folding bed sheets inside a large vehcile or folding bed sheets outside in a smaller vehicle.
If you live on wheels or just want to , you found the right place !
If you're wondering how you can start this lifestyle .......you just did.

STEP 1
Please post an intro telling us about what's going on in your world so we know you're NOT a scammer/spammer/bot/text miner ,etc.
Lurking is allowed if you have to , I guess . But if you don't post at least once , you will be assumed to be one of the above and deleted .

Optional : What rig you're using (or would like to have) , where you've been and what you liked or didn't about the place . Found a good shortcut ? or a great repair place ? Ask any questions you have and reply to anything you know about and have something to add...

There is a ladies only forum , just ask to be led behind the curtain ..

The book of rules:
1) Have Fun
2) Don't be a jerk.
3) OR an "internet genius".
4) AND we've heard all the "theories" so find someplace else for those OK ?
