There's a old facebook messenger hack that still goes around where a friend (who has already been hacked) sends you a PM that says something like "LOOK WHO DIED" and a link. If you click it, you've just lost your whole facebook account. It gives them full access, they change your password, and drain any funds they can if you use facebook pay. 

So...

Don't use facebook pay. They will still send the message to ALL of your friends, continuing to search for who they can bankrupt.
Don't click links. 
Don't trust that a good friend hasn't been hacked.

Do turn on 2 factor authentication on Facebook if you use it. This stops them from changing your password, but doesn't prevent them accessing your account and sending messages to your friends. AND draining your funds if they can.
Do set your friends list to be viewable to ONLY ME.
Do go over all your privacy settings again--as things change a setting may change to a default you don't want.
Do go through all logged in devices and log everything out you don't recognise.

I had to deal with this for a family member. There was no facebook pay involved thank goodness, but I was unable to recover the account at the time. We were able to turn on 2 factor authentication. We think Facebook eventually defaulted his account back to his very first password, which he discovered one day as he tried every old password he had. Another thing is, it had been about 2 months since he clicked the link before the hack sent out messages!! They must go through everything in order as they gain access.]]>

I've created a new group. All of us fall under "registered user" and that is where we get our permissions to private message others. Now, there's a new Veteran group. If you have posted more than 10 times, you are automatically moved to the new group and still have permissions to private message.

IF you can't private message, please let me know and I'll look into it further. If I hear no complaints, I'll assume I got it right and all is good.  = )

As a group of “bandwidth challenged” individuals, we want to reduce bandwidth in the areas we can without sacrificing content. Of importance also is the fact that this forum runs on the lowest bandwidth tier available on the hosting site. And while we are not in danger of hitting that data cap, we want to stay proactive. Also, we are a small, tight-knit community and we want to feel confidence in sharing our personal lives (as so many of us do). As a result, we ask two simple things:

1. Register to see posts below the first section (Forum Announcements).
2. Post at least one post, preferably introducing yourself. (We accept all members…from those currently living in a vehicle, those thinking about it/planning it, or anyone mildly curious. We do hope to hear from you more than once.)

A quick review shows that more than half the member’s database is composed of non-posting accounts. We are deleting those accounts starting 1 Feb 23. The Registration Agreement has been updated, informing new members of the requirement to post at least one post within 2 weeks of joining.

If any accounts are being held by spammers, it’s likely to be in this group, so it helps clean that up also. The end result will be invisible to current users, except that the site may get a tiny bit faster after cleaning up the list.
