Stiverin' down the road
#1
Well, now that I have Tapatalk figured out, I can prove to Popeye it really did happen, with pictures!

As I've said elsewhere, after a few setbacks, Ed and I finally got underway in mid-December. We headed south, with the foolish idea that there might be warm weather down there, but were often disappointed. Charleston, first, where it was a raw 40 degrees, but dear and long missed old friends made it well worthwhile. Canaveral to see the rockets for Christmas. (We were amazed at the crowds there, that day!) Then back up to Atlanta, where it was in the twenties the whole week we were there, 'til the last day. Again, time with The Perfect Grandchild and her parental units rendered the weather moot. (The comfy, warm bed and all the amenities didn't hurt, either.)
We headed south again, down through Florida, where it was alternately lovely and raw. Savanas Park (a county park, I think?) right on a gorgeous marsh, where we saw Sandhill cranes for the first time, was a beautiful place to stay, and the weather was perfect. Down to Miami, and across the Tamiami Trail, up the Gulf side to Zephyr Hills, where half of Maine lives in the winter, visited everyone we knew, and off to the west. NOLA was cold, as was a whole lot of the trip from there to Quartzite, e.g. 15 degrees in Abilene, Snow in Show Low, AZ, etc. It seems that the jet stream had decided to visit the Gulf, so we didn't hit consistently decent weather until pretty near Quartzsite!
Pix coming up...

Rig being decommissioned near Port Arthur, Tx. Reminded me of when I worked with the rigs exploring George’s Banks.

I'd love to see the Cape. An amazing display on human kind's will to explore.

Man is doing things that most men would never imagine. (Man being species, not only male)  someone must have said it couldn’t be done.

We saw The Big Array. It is another bucket list thing. It just left ME speechless  Cool

It (the Cape) is entirely awe inspiring and a bit overwhelming. There was a LOT of private industry doing the work there.

I was at the Cape in 1969 and watched Apollo 11 lift off sitting in the viewer bleachers. I felt the concussion on my chest and for some reason my eyes started leaking. A memory I'll never forget.
