I'm born and raised in Texas. And have never lived (had an address) anywhere but Texas. Something getting blown up dies a lot faster than a poorly placed shot(s) that allow them to escape into cover or get away and not being able to be found. Like Putts replied. Think rats in new york city alley's ...just bigger. And when I have more rounds of ammo than most. I think of ammo as an investment. Ammo will be more valuable than gold soon. The price of ammo will most likely never go down. Saving ammo? Well if you're one to budget...I never have to buy the tannerite due to others wanting to come out to the family ranch themselves and they bring it with them. But I will not shoot others ammo and as little of my as possible. I'm a prepper with caches from coast to coast and two bases to attempt to get to if SHTF. The End. Now ...can we get back to the OP's subject?

Sorry, Gary, but when people brag about blowing up animals, I get irate. My last post was restrained. It's bad enough when people do it, but worse when they brag about it. And that's what he was doing. They don't really do it for the general good, they don't do it to save ammo, they do it for the FUN and bragging rights of it. I've heard of this before. Do they go in afterward and destroy the injured hogs? No, they just leave them to die... eventually.
And WHY does Texas have such a problem, esp since the 1980s? Well, guess what? The Texans did it to themselves, DELIBERATELY.
The Texas ranchers actually started cultivating wild hog populations on their ranches so they could sell hunting leases. Some of them were actually trapped and released in other parts of the state, for the same reason. Other ranchers set out feed to attract deer, but attracted wild hogs, instead, and the well-fed hogs kept multiplying. Texas has deliberately raised themselves to the the state with -- by far -- the worst feral hog problem. And they knew how destructive they were. They did it Deliberately... voluntarily... and on purpose. Did they think about the possible problems? Of course not.

you can attack the post all you want,the problem arises when you direct demeaning comments to the person posting
instead of saying your this and your that say i think anyone who would do that is...simple semantics
your last paragraph here is a good example,adding a link to your source material would be recommended

For the record. I did not mean it to "Brag" ..It may seem terrible to some. But on our family ranch and others its no different that killing rats..no big deal. How they got to be so numerous may be the areas own fault. "Kind of" like the pythons etc in FL or Gov laws and regulations that are meant to help but end up hurting more. IDK..My family that has owned the ranch fro the last 30 yrs did not participate in the importing of the hogs. But none the less they still keep coming. We don't charge people to come hunt them. A majority of the hunters do use rifles, bows, etc. Many of them take their hogs they kill with them. We even have a shed and freezer that is set up to butcher them etc for their convenience. If it wasn't for the all the regulations etc we would shoot them and butcher them for the needy Americans. But..the gov won't allow that. We do our very best to account for each injured one and dispense of them asap. No different than a wounded game animal with a badly placed shot. I thought this subject was done? I will now be unsubscribing from this thread. Different strokes for different folks. I do respect others opinion and point of views even when they differ or even opposite of mine. It's that what our First Amendment is all about? Thank you to everyone for using their rights and having a somewhat civil discussion on this.

I had a friend in Florida that would trap them and keep them and feed them for a couple of weeks or so then sell BBQ. Seems he said he would geld the males or the meat had a bad taste. I have eaten his BBQ and you really couldn’t tell any difference between that and store bought as with the feeding all the games taste was gone.

If you read the link I posted in post 51 this thread, you'll see where they say wild pig is leaner, and has a richer flavor than farm raised pig.
