I ordered two east Penn deka 1000 amp batteries.
They will be a huge improvement from the two 550 amp
Interstate batteries I have now.

Starting batteries are rated in cold cranking amps. Ability to.turn a starter motor when cold.
Deep cycle.batteries are rated in amp.hours. a measure storage.
Marine batteries are rated with cca mca and amp hour.
1000 amp' batteries makes no sense without a marine cranking or cold cranking in front of 'amps'
1000 certainly is not amp hours.
Perhaps.marine cranking amps.on group 24 might be 1000
But big cranking amps.mean nothing in a deep cycle application.
The heavier battery with lesser cca has thicker more durable.plates in deep. Ycle.duty. high cca no ampnhour rating is a starting battery.
A starting battery in deep cycle.duty is doomed to an early demise

I also ordered a 15 amp smart charger,
I'm going to do as much as I can to make
these new batteries last as long as possible.

I got my new batteries, and smart charger.
They are East Penn Deka batteries, and
are rated at 1000 amps at 32 degrees, and
800 amps at zero degrees.
I'm going to charge them both, and install them this weekend.

Starting batteries are cheaper though. To get you through a year or two may be worth it.

Maybe he bought the Ebay marine version for $110 each:
1 x EastPenn Deka 24M7 Marine Master 1000Amp Cranking Power STARTING Battery (Brand New from EastPenn Deka)
Marine Master batteries are renown for their proven dependability and solid performance. This flooded
battery line offers a complete array of starting, dual purpose, and deep cycle solutions for virtually any
marine need. Even under challenging marine conditions like wave pounding vibration, stubborn engine
starting, heavy house power, auxiliary, and trolling, Marine Master batteries rise to the top in user-friendly,
marine-tough service, and extended reliability.
Benefits:- High cranking power for quick engine starts
- Flush cover, easy-to-install
- Extra reserve capacity for emergencies
- Maintenance-free design
Specifications:- Voltage: 12 Volt
- Reserve Capacity: 130
- CCA at 0 degrees F: 800
- CA at 32 degrees F: 1000
- BCI Group size: 24
- Warranty: 12 months free replacement from manufacturer
- Length: 10.75 inch
- Width: 6.75 inch
- Height: 9.375 inch
- Weight: 45.0 lbs
Shallow cycling and regular (weekly) ac charges with his improved converter might be ok. If they are at least the Marine variety, which is better than auto starting only, (but nowhere near the true deep cycle or GC abilities) then he could get several years out of them.
I still think even a 100w panel on the roof would sure help. Thats a bit small but anything 100 watt or more would be good for in between ac recharges.

Even a small amount of solar would provide the low amps for extended times to finish the charging.

I do have two 100 amp solar panels, I just ran
out of time before winter got here.
They would be a big help right now, and I wouldn't
Have to run my generator and much or at all.
