Doom Despair and Agony on me - GotSmart - 01-25-2023

Sometimes when I have a problem I think that and smile.

Little frustrations that get dealt with when updating a used vehicle.

Today I brought my “new” truck to the mechanic for brakes. At one time I would have been all over this job. But no more. Anyway I was informed that it would be a week before he can do the job. It needs pistons and 10 inch drums. Total cost. $200 including labor. He cleaned everything up so no worries for the next week. The front is in great shape.

That I can live with.

A box arrived from rock auto. I had a bad feeling looking at this one. Inside was two shock absorbers. And six spark plugs.

Angry

What kind of nitwit packs porcelain in the same box as heavy metal items without anything other than bubble wrap?

Hold on a second while I hammer on these for a little.   I refuse to use anything that might have stress cracks. If one of them breaks in the motor ~~~ dead truck.

I filled out an online complaint. We will see

Sigh *facepalm*

Rock Auto came through. They sent me a label and as soon as the post office scans it out go my new plugs. Perhaps I should just buy them local.

While I’m waiting on my plugs, I thought I would get the plug wires out of the way.

Nope.

Someone had taken the original set of wires out and put in one for a completely different ignition system. If I had a V8 Chevy all good.
Another trip to get the label and wait for a couple more days.

Meanwhile, I found a dome light. To get it to work I also had to change out the door switch.

Found a basic stereo that can use CDs. Now I have tunes. It’s hard to find rock in Nashville.

1/2 inch of ice on everything today.

Yesterday I had to make a quick trip into town. Since I got the stereo, I have had a battery light come on occasionally. Yesterday it didn’t go off. Than the voltage dropped. The kid at the parts house pointed me to the old guy. He had one of these trucks. My brushes are going out in the alternator/generator. They don’t carry the brushes but the unit is only $200!

I don’t think so.

I go out to the truck and it is dead. 10 minutes later it starts and away I go. Lights off and revs up. Halfway home it starts to work again. No battery light and full voltage. My $10 brushes will be here tomorrow. That gives me enough time to research what works best.

ohhh sorry you got the cold for the ice!
we got milder temps. Just big rain for us here. I was thinking if it was cold temps the ice from this storm would destroy our area for sure. We got lucky so far. Sorry ya got that mess.

Well after two days of thawing out the truck I got it to the mechanic. He had to replace a lot of parts. Some things are only done by professionals with insurance. Like brakes.

$500 later I now have a $2,000 truck with new brakes.

Tomorrow more parts will be delivered but I am not about to work on things in 31’ temps.   I need to make a list of repairs to put in the glove compartment.

Brakes are good , never leave home without them....
That's not bad for a pickup !
How's the ice thing goin' , any power lines down there ?
