inverter - Blacktank - 10-12-2021

i gave it the ol collage try but it came down to charging things, they all have their own charger and had a vision of a box full of 12v adapters so inverter it is then

what size gets folk by? not going to be trying to run a a/c or microwave, for phone, laptop, power tools chargers and maybe a tv

been browsing this site https://invertersrus.com/

The power tools are the big power items , need to go with the highest plus some extra to cover start up surges. (A table saw is 15a + surge so leave it at home , a circular saw , maybe 12a )

Without them a 1000watt should cover any of the rest , maybe a few at a time on the smaller stuff. Probably enough for the TV and grandma's VCR too !

I went with the battery tool method , I'm using a 700w inverter which will also charge the tools but I don't because I have a charger for them that uses 12v to charge the 18v batts.

If you CAN leave the table saw behind but want the shop welder along I have just the thing.....
A Heart Interface power management system that has a 2800w msw inverter and a 90a three stage charger built in that you can have , but you'll have to come pick it up , I mean ,,,I can't get it a foot off the floor ,,,,close to 100 lbs of massive transformer monster..LOL (it does need a 12v fan to replace the one FEDEX knocked off shipping it to me from Texas...)

A 300 watt PSW will get you by if you don't need everything charging all at once, a 500 to 700 watt PSW will not even struggle with most or all of those loads plugged in at the same time.

I have had very good luck with GoPower, Samlex, and Renogy inverters...the cheap no-name inverters sooner or later fail under load. I have pictures of a Wagan inverter that blew it's capacitors under a steady 50% load. Hint: Don't buy one!

Note to Popeye: "power tool chargers", not powering the tools directly.  Cool

RE: inverter - Wayne49 - 10-12-2021

I have found the cheap inverters only supply around half of their labeled wattage.

I have a Samlex 1000W PSW. My only complaint is that it is too easy to fat finger the TEST button while inserting an AC plug. In case you don't know, it tests the builtin circuit breaker. There's no idiot light for that.

I have both a Ryobi AC charger and a Ryobi DC charger.

RE: inverter - rvpopeye - 10-12-2021

My Samlex 600w psw inverter stopped working after about 20 hours use.
So I just got the 700w Renogy.
Ryobi 18v one+ tools also. I got the 150w inverter for the same batteries and love the thing , I use it on my USB C laptop.
(Alll of my 12v USB chargers charge it too slow ,,,, )

RE: inverter - Blacktank - 10-12-2021

looks like i can get 700-1000w for around $200
a dewalt 20v 12v charger is $100,the 120v chargers are cheap and come with the tool most of the time

Xantrex is the brand I chose to suggest to my customers due to the customer service I saw a customer receive the first year I was out here. Their 600 watt pure sine wave is $158.88

I have suggested their inverters big and small 100's of times and have not seen a failure outside of that one incident which was the customers fault due to a shorted out outlet.

RE: inverter - Wayne49 - 10-13-2021

Samlex has good support (or did) did you contact them? I had contacted them about the remote control pinout voltages for the LED indicators, when I was remote controlling the inverter with an Arduino board. The tech guy, here in the USA, was happy to check it out and got right back to me. That project was to run a dorm fridge off the Samlex. The Samlex had no issues, the dorm fridge went crazy above 95F and couldn't cool down. The limit for those fridges is 85F, above that and the warranty is void. They could have a temp sensitive tattletale sticker somewhere.

My Samlex 1000 was in use 24x7 from June 1st through October 7th, sometimes 99+F, with zero issues, except when I kicked the plug out of the fridge, and the time I tripped the outlet by mistake. I also used the AC to charge a laptop and phone, and to use a rice cooker.

I recently shut down the fridge, 65 qt, that was using AC and switched back to the 45 qt that can use DC [45 qt fits into a rack that has the bank at the bottom, therefore the DC run is short. The 60qt wouldn't fit in that space and was located too far for DC.] The reason to switch was as the solar day gets shorter, I could foresee issues with not getting back to 100% on cloudy, rainy, or dust stormy days. Prior to June 1st I had used the 45 qt from mid March until June 1 with no issues with getting back to 100%.

RE: inverter - rvpopeye - 10-13-2021

The Samlex was a gift , I didn't use it for the warranty period was waiting for the solar upgrade ,, and I didn't want to screw with it.
It's in the box the Renogy came in. I might tear it open for a lookie some day.....
The Renogy has bigger connectors for the DC input and came with a remote . Very happy with it after 6 months.

I have a 65 qt fridge and the low sun angle is putting me in shade WAY too early now ,9-10 am.... not much sun when it doesn't clear the building next door till after 7.
I was wondering if I should have bought the 45 instead , It cost very little more when I priced them so I went for the bigger one. I've been plugging it in as soon as the controller gets to 13+v and shutting down when it shuts off from it's second cycle , set at 36. It's still 43 degrees in there now. No perishables in there right now so not stressing over it , too many other things to do.
