Renogy Solar Flashlight - Nissi - 10-22-2017 Anyone use this flashlight? https://www.renogy.com/renogy-e-lumen-multi-functional-flashlight/ Opinion: good, bad, so-so. One concern I have: it is only 200 lumens, so how bright will it be (?)
RE: Renogy Solar Flashlight - sternwake - 10-23-2017 For vehicle dwelling I'd much rather have a 14500 or 18650 lithium based battery flashlight and recharge it from the vehicle. These: https://www.amazon.com/Hausbell-Ultra-Bright-Flashlight-Tactical/dp/B00CEOII9K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1508782110&sr=8-3&keywords=14500+led+flashlight can run off of an Alkaline AA battery but are about 25 to 30% brighter on a lithium 14500 cell. The AA and the 14500 are the same physical dimensions, 14mm diameter and 50mm long. One is 1.5v the other is 3.7v nominal I like the zoomable factor, and these can concentrate the beam to a nice small square of light. I have an 18650 battery based zoomable flashlight that is OK, not worthy of a link. I also use a Nitecore HC50 headlamp which uses an 18650 battery. It recently has become unreliable, and In a moment of flashaholic weakness, I ordered the Olight H2r headlamp. 2300 lumens available for about a minute when the battery can still support that rather tremendous light output. It has regular low medium and high settings as well as a moonlight mode. The 1 minute is because of the tremendous heat it generates, but 2300 lumens is more than most vehicle's headlights on low beams One neat product I really like is this portable USB source. It will charge a 18650 battery from a USB port and will act as a USB source too. https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-C2-Small-Sized-Fast-Charging-Flashlights/dp/B01MPWHSCM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1508782495&sr=1-1&keywords=thrunite A couple ofextra 18650 batteries and my existing headlamps and It would cover the backpacker needs as well as the renogy solar flashlight, for several days at least. Problem with solar recharging of such devices is one either needs to set it outside in the sun and risk driving off with it on their roof, or place it in a sunny window and account for sun movment and lesser solar radiance through glass. RE: Renogy Solar Flashlight - Nissi - 10-23-2017 Thank you for your great reply! I had heard too that the higher lumens flashlights, as you mentioned about the 2300 lumen flashlight, are not long lasting. I will check out your links
RE: Renogy Solar Flashlight - GotSmart - 10-24-2017 Well there are big flashlights, then there are big big flashlights, then there are portable suns. Two questions. 1. How much room do you have to store it? 2. Are you just trying to see or blind someone? RE: Renogy Solar Flashlight - bLEEp - 10-24-2017 I have the Hausbell and love it to death. It does rip through batteries like no tomorrow though. RE: Renogy Solar Flashlight - sternwake - 10-24-2017 Does your hausbell have low high and strobe? Mine(bought in 2013) did not, just high. I lost that one with the lithium battery, leaving me only one 14500. battery. Recently I bought versions that say Rockbirds on them, these do have high low and strobe. The 3.7v lithium 14500 battery on low is as bright as the1.5v AA battery is on high. There are likely dozens of different clones of this type. I found some of them would not concentrate the beam to as small a square and not throw quite as far. some of them ship slow boat from china for free for under 2$, or at least they did in 2013 My 18650 zoomable light does not concentrate the light as much as desired. While its LED is capable of more light the 14500 smaller light has better throw. RE: Renogy Solar Flashlight - bLEEp - 10-24-2017 Lots of things for a good price came on those boats from China ![]() Nope, no separate strobe settings, I am not really sure where it came from. We used to have so many people in and out of our house for business and pleasure and the mrs has a big family. If there are clones, it likely is one. I know it is backpack friendly and really lights shit up well, great for backwoods festivals in the midwest. Id give the damned ol thing two thumbs up. )
