My superior and cheap solar panel brackets - Mr.LooRead - 04-21-2018

Well, it finally stopped snowing here in the Endless Mtns. of Pensiltucky. The sun is out with low fifty-degree temps and the children are in t-shirts and shorts enjoying an earth day fishing derby at the pond across the street.

I have also been busy today with my roof mount solar panel setup.

A while back I purchased a Van Tech roof rack that mounts to existing metric threads built into the roof at the Euro Ford factory.

My thought was to use the standard 1.5" zinc plated perforated angle iron in a 4' size $10@ Lowes $15@ local BF Egypt Ace hardware in a quantity of four ($$OUCH).

So a few weeks ago I sat too abruptly on my Cabelas big man's cot that I use as a daybed in my studio apartment then there was a sound of a massive rip in the material making the cot Non Grata.

After I stripped off the material as trash I came to the conclusion the aluminum frame could be recycled into some future project.

I took a measurement of the outside perimeter parts and found it to an exact fit for my solar panel(s) mounting needs. In fact, it was such an exact fit the holes for the cot brackets were the EXACT size needed between the roof racks and only a drill was needed to make the existing holes the diameter to able to pass a 5/16 carriage bolt.

So this is today's final outcome and was enough work for one day (time for my afternoon nap) for a physically
disabled senior citizen and tomorrow the panels will be mounted drilling 16 holes to mount the Z brackets to the aluminum tubing.

Looks good.
Once done it's done. Then it's on to next job.

I like it. My wife wonders why I save all the bits and pieces of things in my scrap pile yet when I fab something up from that "junk" she is amazed. MacGyver is alive and well...

My overall height is around 6'6"-8". The radio antenna is 9" and is the tester to see if I can camp in an indoor parking garage.

I have matching black in color stretch cords between the holes in the downward facing end brackets for dual clotheslines.

When you start saving bent nails and rusty
bolts you are officially an "Old Fart".
