Republic said "Liberated" not "Liberal" which I think might be different.  The last time I was in the San Francisco area was 1968.  I'm not sure how minds expand any more.  : )

I remember that thread Men only...It as a good thread and we had lots of good post to it and we were communicating. Ah I think that is the start of most healthy relationships.

As for liberated...Vancouver might be Gay Disneyland of the north but to me, it really is a none starter. I don't play ping pong so I am not really interested in discussing paddles and balls. I get many friends, co-workers, and associates do like ping-pong and they enjoy topics about it. Doesn't mean we can't be friends and it doesn't mean your worldview is or has to be ping-pong centred. A non-starter. If you like to wear your ping-pong team jacket out when we go out for dinner that is cool. I might good naturally tease you about it and you can critique my wardrobe choices too. I don't mind if other people in the restaurant think I play for your ping pong team because you're wearing your jacket. I am me your friend and you are you. If I am to be judged by the company I keep then fine, you are my friend and so you must be a great person and if others wish to reduce everything to a sport you play then they are pretty shallow. Thanks for saving me the time figuring it out myself.

A non-starter. A non-issue. About as important to me as the colour of your skin.

I once had a friend come out to me after we had been friends for seven years. I think it was pretty anti-climatic for him. He got all serious and I honestly thought he was going to tell me he was dying of cancer. When he told me the big secret I said: "yeah I knew that a couple of weeks after we met."

Who really cares what colour another person paints their wagon?

I don't get the big ticket issue many countries, cultures, and societies make of this.

Faith/Politics and resources/idea of family?

Ah HELLO!! North America is a country of immigrants. We all brought different ideas about ALL those things from the places we came from.

Now we are here. We need to love the things that unite us and be liberal about the things that divide us. I am not going to toss rocks at someone because they play or like Ping Pong.

So over here the lady/women/wimin/girl thread is hidden to try an avoid accidental exposure to things that some wish to say only in the lady's room. Not an issue and I get it some stuff I've said in the locker room I wouldn't want to expose my sisters too. Not an issue.

But I don't think orientation should separate us. I've had very enlightening conversations with ping pong playing female friends. But other topics of a sensitive GENDER notion; yeah I don't really need, or want, to be in the loop. Invisible is best, just avoids the male opps factor!

GENDER is GENDER
Orrientation is Orrientation.

Binary...Ok first work out all the grammar changes that have to occur in a language (English)  that has no grammar differences like Russian and French have and we can make a separate safe place for you. If you identify then you should be on the hook to clarify how we pluralize the adverbs required for a present future perfect tense sentence. Too much work? OK then I will use they, them and just join the campfire and have a drink. I don't care if you play Ping-Pong or Checkers. How do you like your hotdog!

The older and more wise/cynical I get, I really think "Liberal" and "Conservative" are just 2 points on a compass.  When I was much younger, I considered Liberal to be way too moderate.  I thought more in terms of Radical or even Anarchist. Eventually you start circling back around to agreeing on SOME things with Conservatives. And next thing you know, you're a Conservative.  And some of us just keep going around the compass.  I've gotten now to the point where I agree with one side on some things, and the other side on other things.

Is this off-topic?  Is that a big concern in the New World of the new forum?

Sure you will. The Liberator was a .45 caliber single shot pistol that was air dropped behind enemy lines in WWII.

It was also the name of an aircraft used during that same campaign.

There are various different meanings for various different words. Don't allow them to be stereotyped into a single meaning. FREEDOM! of the mind, that is. Wink

It is my observation that in America the media likes to portray people as polarized.  Then, it becomes the truth.  It brings up the ratings (I think) , thus making them more money.  It seems to me that people who watch the news / TV are more worked up about stuff I think is trivial.  The politicians feed off of that, and then say stuff that the media reports.

To use an internet analogy, it's like trolls throwing down flamebait, and hot discussions ensue.  Now, once you realize that places like YouTube pay for views and viewing time , it makes more sense , at least to me, why some YouTubers take so long to get to the point or to make no point at all.  Why some post new posts every day.  They are making money off of it.

So, the more controversy one stirs up, the more $$$ one makes.  Scott, does that not happen in Canada?
For example, I still haven't figured out the Kardashians.  I never heard of them, and then one day, they were everywhere you look.  WTF.  If you stand in line to buy something almost ANYWHERE, you are bombarded with the covers of magazines talking about breakups, get-back-togethers, who got kicked off of the island, and so on...

Enough of this ... as John Prine wrote, " Blow up your TV, move to the country.... "

Regards,

Pat

Well I think I have improved and strive to be more Liberty Minded. I have studied the Magna Carta, Federalists Papers, Anti-Federalist Papers, Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, Bill of Rights, Taylor Grazing Act, Referencing material with the Black Law Dictionary, Working now studying each State Constitution. Ohh...and the many letters that the signers of the USC wrote to their friends and wives. They tell alot to history and why they wrote the things they did. Also what the true meaning and intentions were. Let me just sum it up...They didn't intend for what we have now that's for dang sure ! We're slowly working our way back to the "beginning" but worse.

However, even if we study and learn, if enough of our neighbors don't then we get sucked in too.
