RE: Registering/Insuring a van/ bus/truck as an RV - GypsyDogs - 02-22-2023 When I had the Roadtrek- I lumped my ‘upgrades’ in with personal items.. And for this custom build- the agent asked me what I could sell it for.. Well…I couldn’t lump $45,000 in with the base value. Since 1) it is a 1989 in spite of the fact that everything except the skin is new as of 2016, and 2) the Kelley blue book! I will check out this insurance company posted here. Maybe they will. Thing is..progressive used to insure for “stated value”. That is with proof of receipts. Suddenly they stopped this last year. After speaking to many insurance companies, I was told that because they lost a big lawsuit, they just will not write those policies. The rest of the companies followed suit. So..here is what they want…you must get a certified inspection done. BUT…the insurance companies are the one to certify inspectors. They require the inspectors to do it based on Kelley blue book, and comp sales. (You can imagine there are not many 1989 Honeywell MiniHoneys on the road) The inspectors do not actually come and look and the vehicle! They would have no way to submit an inspection based on visual check. RE: Registering/Insuring a van/ bus/truck as an RV - GypsyDogs - 02-22-2023 Yeah— same problem auto insurance has.. you buy a $3000 car and put $$6000 in tires and engine work and suspension and repairs .. and you still have a $3000 car.. RE: Registering/Insuring a van/ bus/truck as an RV - Wayne49 - 02-22-2023 To get AAA insurance comp & collision when I was living in Michigan, they required the vehicle be inspected at the AAA facility in Troy, MI. Michigan is a "no fault" state, where no lawyers arguing about who was at fault are involved in settling claims, and insurance is slightly cheaper. RE: Registering/Insuring a van/ bus/truck as an RV - RoamingKat - 02-28-2023 If you buy an old dead RV, totally restore it….back to full working conditions. Beautifully done. You add $40k to it. You do not have a $300 old dead RV. I called that insurance company. Same thing…no they do not insure for stated value no matter how many receipts you kept. I have followed every lead for months…including Lloyds (which will insure any thing for a price). No insurance… RE: Registering/Insuring a van/ bus/truck as an RV - Kyz - 02-28-2023 (02-28-2023, 12:39 PM)RoamingKat Wrote: I called that insurance company. I saved some screenshots, but they aren't clear which part of the talk it was covering and don't state "Roamly." Sorry
