Got a new truck today!
#11
Sounds like they made you a really deal.

Yeah my new truck is a 'heavy half', and it has no problems pulling either of my trailers...I've had a couple of half tons and they did the job, but not well...

So, what are the plans? Travel trailer? Fifth wheel? Slide-in camper?

Great Truck !! Good for you !! I'm sure you can get about 300 watts of solar on top of it. Or 150 watts and a Maxxair fan. LOL..JJK.
Seriously... I swear to you..Put strong magnets on the bottom of the oil and transmission pans Now !! When the mechanicals are breaking in they will shed a lot of little metal particles. Don't let those stay in the engine etc. Much it will go through a filter. This little 4 dollars or less trick will make your truck last twice as long. Try it for one time on the oil pan. Next oil change do it yourself. Use a clean drain pan. Pull magnet off pan right before you pull the plug. Then put the magnet on the outside of the drain pan. You'll see what I'm talking about. Just trying to help you save your investment.

My plan has been to buy a cargo trailer and convert the inside.  But now that my funds are much lower than I was anticipating with this new purchase, I might look for a cheap slide in for the time being to get some shorter trips in under my belt.

I'm betting you could get a new cargo trailer for less than a decent slide-in camper...but you never know.

I put a topper on my pickup and pull a cargo...works great!

Sadly Chevrolet's engine problems have been going on since 2007 when the flex fuel cylinder deactivation engines made their debut in the Silverado. Can't tell you how many I saw at the small dealer where I worked.

Great to have new wheels!  Too bad about the old one, that wasnt many miles on it.
The dealer did help you out on the old trade, thats nice.  Make sure you use a bedliner or a spray-on liner of some sort.

I doubt you’ll find any decent slide-in camper for less than a trailer, truck campers are pretty spendy now. Also the bed sizes keep changing so be sure to measure what you have, I’ve read that many older campers won’t work. (TC forums)

I agree that you can likely build your own basic non-slide TC or build out a utility/cargo trailer for much less, and have a better unit as well.

Whatever you end up with, I’m sure you will enjoy the truck! ????

What's worse than having a truck blow an engine at 100k?......buying a brand new one and actually giving Chevy a 2nd chance and having it not start in the morning!! Jumped it and it started right up, but brought it back to the dealership to have it looked at. And on the way there I took the highway and once I hit 65 mph it started vibrating really bad. Actually was the first time I had it on the highway since buying it a few days ago, well first time on the highway free of traffic anyways.

I walked into that dealership this morning yelling, cursing and making a scene I now kind of feel bad about!, I can only imagine they lost a few sales as a result.

All is fixed and ended up not being their fault obviously, they don't actually make the vehicles, just sell them. Battery was defective and one of the rear tires had a few random rows of treads almost 1/4" higher than the others, they shaved it down to make it even, but I ended up putting up another big stink and demanded four new tires and they obliged. Figured if one tire was that much off and they were all made at the same time, how was I to know the other three didn't have another defect that wasn't so easily noticed?

But now it's running extremely smooth, much smoother than I expected a 3/4 ton to ride honestly. If these are the only issues for a good while, i'll be an extremely happy camper.
