SpaceX Is Now Taking Requests for Starlink Beta Testers
#11
If Starlink turns out to be a good affordable system for rural locations, it could not be more well-timed, since a LOT of workers that used to need to live and commute in large metro areas, can and are now working from home over the internet. Many of them are ditching the urban residence close to or within urban sprawl, and moving out into the boonies, small town america, remote land, semi-off-grid, etc.

It's gonna be interesting to watch!

From what I read, it will cost about $80 a month. Not bad and pretty low latency. I wonder if the ~18" disk can be portable. It does do its' own tilting to acquire a satellite.

$80 would be reasonable, I guess....assuming good bandwidth and no data cap...and that is a big assumption at this stage of the game...and I don't think the antenna physically tilts, it's called a phased array, and that means it will electrically tilt the pattern.

In other words, magic!

I can see it now, in the woods, weak signal...

We-boost for Starlink, anyone?

Boy are we gonna be seeing a LOT of questions on this topic in the next year or so.

I'm quite sure that system would have no trouble locating your keys..yup yup , it's true I tell ya !

IIIRC I saw Musk in an interview saying you will have to point it......UP ^ that's it.
So phased array sounds probable.
And I'm guessing there may be enough sats eventually that maybe the array antennas can be PHASED OUT !

Phase-out the phased-arrays?

Entirely possible as the satellite coverage increases and the technology improves.

I mean, look at a 20 year old GPS receiver antenna compared to today, and the satellite antenna for XM radio is tiny, about the size of a matchbook.

This is the guy that designed electric vehicles then released his patents to the public for free
, then built a mega factory building batteries for all of 'em... lol.
Puts solar systems on people's houses for free.
Lands space ships on postage stamps..
And now is doing all the heavy lifting for NASA.

He has a propensity to rarely announce any project until he has it all worked out and ready for action....

I'd guess this already works , they just need to catch up with deployment .....
I'd also guess it will be affected by storms especially snow like sat networks now , but these are lower and there'll be a shit ton of 'em up there. So ?
Maybe he's back engineered a cloaking device from Area 51 too !
Yup , there have already been complaints....transparent aluminum Scotty ???????.......stay tuned.

Tesla stock was around $17 when he went public in 2010 ? up and down since then so lets take a look at what it is now ????? BRB !

Maybe Bob needs to call Elon and ask for a bit of assistance...things keep breaking over there on the other board.
