FOOD AND FOOD STORAGE
#11
I didn't know either , until I broke out in a massive case of hives and my lungs cut back to about 25% . after "super cleaning" (including extra times through the wash cycle) my sleeping bag after a canoe trip.
It REALLY bothered me when I had to set up sound central out in the audience without my riser.
Worse than a buncha church ladies I tell ya,,,,even the guys .
Disco days arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggh I HATED the disco era in SO many ways....

I saw some tv a while back , there was an ad for a new downy product ,,,that guaranteed it would make your clothes reek (err , smell "like a mountain stream" ) for 3 whole months ! Or some BS like that.....perfect !

We've all been brainwashed for years to believe it too.
You will def be shunned by all of society if you don't smell like a barrel full of chemicals is their "ad truth".
It seems to be a very effective campaign too..

And while I'm on the subject fabric softener is basically just wax.
stay tuned

only thing is you say 'if you have to go or can go' and in truth if you have no 'set date' to hit the road then why bother buying all that food that is dehydrated or fried dried? I mean if you are a prepper type, kinda like I am LOL then you prep at home and I have done just that but if one has to 'bug out' for a maybe....and this virus ain't gonna be that for me at all'....but it might be for you Smile not sure on that...…..I would put money into van and aliner to have it perfectly ready to travel if travel is what I would want. van and aliner in top form to go when I can go.

It almost sounds like you can't get out of where you are to travel in a way. A bug out van with just some dehyrdrated food and nothing else in prepper form, like extra gas tanks etc. for long driving when fuel is not available and more...….???...…..well what I am saying is it seems your thoughts are all around in a way...…..not sure of your path going forward and your timeline to do just that?

But I do follow a preppers info and this is what they say: The first layer of a prepper’s food supply should be canned food. Canned food is cheap, easy to store, and readily available pretty much anywhere. Your canned food supply should consist of different types of foods, such as meats, vegetables, fruits, and soups.------does this apply to a van and aliner limited space? but dehydrated is great but then you need ALOT of water to make it edible and will water be available on demand? So.....

just some thoughts on it all. ready to eat food beats food that 'needs' water, cook, prep to handle vs. open a can and eat.

First of all, you need a brain to have it washed.

Second, you could use a little bit of softener.

Third and most important. A pleasant odor is preferable versus 3 months of Roady armpit wax.  Sad

Where did that rant come from?   Huh Huh Huh

I ain't into heavy perfumed junk either and heck who wants to throw downey stink crystals into a washer to keep chemical fake smells on your towels LOL I don't bother wasting my money on this crap plus I have to say my sinus/head hates those strong smells. And yea we can stink a bit HAHA nothing wrong with that but in the end a good old bar of soap never hurt anything either...heehee

I did the prepper thing for a while in sticks and bricks. Then I went low carb and had to completely change my thoughts (food wise). I ended up getting rid of it all before the move. I want to stock up on the right foods (when I figure out what [to buy] and where [to store]). Freeze dried might be something I work on slowly.

I make my own laundry detergent without perfumes. I do use fels naptha soap in it which has a slight smell. I follow this recipe minus the scent crystals:

I also hand grate the soap (freeze for a day or so then bring back to room temperature--it seems more brittle).

Make your own soap sounds like a good plan..
I've tried so many kinds , I lost track .
But for some reason Dial doesn't bother me.(or mom)
Laundry detergent ,,, Arm and Hammer free and clear or the SUN version is our go to products..
I have to supply mom's , her facility has no interest in doing such things.....grrrrrrrrrrr
Pennies seem so important to them....

I just read up on making your own laundry detergent, not recommended cause homemade version allows the grime/grease to build up and manufactured laundry detergent has a sulfate (or something, can't remember what it is) in them that breaks down that grease/grime in clothes and truly cleans them better. I found it interesting cause I also made my own laundry soap for a while and in the end, I have to say I switched back cause it didn't do as good on clothes as I hoped.

Popeye I do free and clear also. I hate the smells LOL The lavender ones are worse, smell so fake. chemically ya know. Not a fan ever on that stuff.

It's just the chemical perfumes for me.
A doc once mentioned MCS...yay.
Why isn't that a big surprise ?
We're just profit-based guinea pigs.....

I used to have a candle company and never had a problem with the natural oil scents I used.
I'd even double dose some candles at buyer request !

Anyhoo , this doesn't have much to do with food storage so. I'm done.
