My new home
#1
Hi All .

I am new here and someone asked for a pic of my rig.

It is a 2000 Thor Wanderer 230FB

It is a replacement for a beautiful looking 1975 Great Divide camper I got this spring. Sadly the Seller lied through his teeth about the condition of it. After months of working on it, and some fun cascade failures, I ended up with the Thor.

It was made by Thor CA. and had pretty decent reviews. It is in need of some basic maintenance and some very light repairs. I am almost ready to move into it.

It came with a generator mount (the generator was removed before I bought it) on the rear, it looks suspiciously like it came that way. A tiny bit of googling said that a generator was an option for these models.

Can anybody on here confirm that a generator was offered from the Factory?

Thanks,
Don

Sorry to hear about the '75.
The replacement looks pretty nice !
Old RVs are a lot like old people , they tend to leak.........

Denver to Q isn't too far . Have you been on any shakedown cruises yet ?
stay tuned

If and when you decide to get a generator, I suggest you purchase larger than you anticipate needing. Then you can run you AC and a coffee pot Smile

I am still mad about the '75. It was such a disappointment.

The new one is nice,  the little slide out for the couch is a huge plus.
It had just downpoured earlier that day,  not a hint of leaking at all in the Thor.

Only shakedown was getting it home.
It was pretty unplanned.
We went to get a used fridge for the '75, and ended up stopping to look at the Thor.
The price was right and we jumped on it.

We were about 2hrs away from home.
Only a standard hitch on my van,  the WDH was at home.
No brake controller either,  it was still in the box it came in, at home.
We threw caution to the wind and hooked it up anyway.
All back roads getting home,  it took just over 4 hours.
I was exhausted.
However,  no swaying or any other issues,  the van took it like a champ!
It towed extremely well.

Luck was definitely on my side that day!

.
I already have a 3000 watt generator.  It runs the AC no problem.  ?

Excellent.

I have a 4000 Onan and it will run the AC but I can't turn on lights, coffee pot, etc without throwing fuses. The 4k Onan came with the rig, so it should be large enough to run AC and the coffee pot, it's not. Smile

I hopefully will only be using the generator for charging the batteries. No solar yet...

The "we" is me and a friend.
He is actually helping me out to get on the road.
if it weren't for him ,come this week, I would probably be literally living under a bridge somewhere!

Fortunately, there are a few genuine nice and helpful people still left in this world!

I will be hitting the road alone though, well hopefully not... I am going Tuesday to go see about getting adopted by a wee little kitten!
