OVER THE LAST 2 OR 3 WEEKS I'VE LEARNED THAT REFRIGERATORS RULE FOR ME.
I'VE BEEN BUYING BETWEEN 15 AND 20 POUNDS OF ICE EVERY 2 OR 3 DAYS.
I PACKED FOOD INTO A ICE CHEST WITH FREEZER BAGS OF ICE LAYERED BETWEEN THE FOOD AND IN EVERY EMPTY SPACE. THIS ICE CHEST SITS IN THE DOORWAY OF MY BEDROOM. THE ONLY COLDER PLACE IN THE APARTMENT IS MY BED WHICH IS ABOUT 3ft AWAY FROM THE WALL WHERE MY AC UNIT IS MOUNTED ABOUT 5in FROM THE CEILING.
I'VE ALSO BEEN PACKING INSULIN PENS IN FREEZER BAGS WITH ICE IN OTHER BAGS AROUND IT AND THEN PLACING THAT IN A SOFT SIDED COOLER THAT I WOULD PUT IN THE FRIG.
I'VE THROWN AWAY AT LEAST $100 OF FOOD WHEN THE FRIG STARTED MESSING UP.
WHILE AT WAL GREENS 2 NITES AGO I BOUGHT 16 REUSEABLE FREEZER PACKS FOR 59cents EACH. REG PRICE THERE IS $1.98. SO I CLEANED OUT THE SHELF IN THE FREEZER DOOR A PACKED SOME OF THEM IN IT. TODAY {MONDAY} IT SEEMS LIKE THE FRIG IS WORKING.
MAYBE I JUST HAD TOO MUCH FOOD IN IT? IDK I'M NOT TRUSTING IT YET.
I CAN'T REMEMBER IF DOUG POSTED HERE ABOUT HIS HOUSE FRIG THAT HE HAS IN HIS VAN OR NOT. MAYBE I CAN FIND IT HERE OR ON CRVL.

Agreed, refrigerators rule. That ice gets pricey over time. However... I'm just not there yet with electricity. I started with a cargo van... all my current electricity is running through my Rockpals 300W portable lithium "power station" which is doing okay so long as I keep it charged up with the van's 12V outlet. But it is a constant thing to keep in mind... and some more automagical solar electricity setup or house battery attached to the dual heavy duty batteries in this van would help a lot and make real refrigeration possible.
Peace...

So since the Rockpals is “backpack-able”, can you take it into a shop/store and sit there and recharge it off their a/c a couple hours a day? Might help.
