Finding the right trailer is a chore

Yes, he answered a lot of questions I had on a thread over on CRVL. To tell the truth, I've only seen cargo conversions online. Seeing one up close would help a lot with how things are done. I'll have to work on that.

While I have not seen this in person. The build I saw had the ramp open from the bottom and the spring that slows the opening does the exact same thing above. It takes a bit of effort and needs a good support but 7x8 foot of covered area is nice, add bug screens and two more solar panels. Seems pretty cool. I tried to find a link but I didn't save it. I do know when I asked a Canadain trailer manufacturer if it could be done from the factory they said sure. When I asked how hard it was to open it up instead of down they said about as hard as it is to close it normally configured.

Just an outside of the box idea. I get NW desert isn't a biggy but snow load sucks camping in the north, as in forget fancy awnings unless they are sloped like a skateboard ramp.

I have a single axle 6x10. It's a Wells Cargo - very well built. I have a drop down ramp.  I had planned to make an enclosed screen room that would go on the ramp to give me another 6ft of interior room (milk crates are the perfect height to make it sit level) The only drawback was not having brakes.  Going down steep grades you can really feel it pushing you.

As far as the Natchez Trace. YES. I was only on a small section, and stayed at the best free campground I've ever been in - super clean, nice bathrooms, water, etc.  https://freecampsites.net/#!1082&query=sitedetails

Yes, I've heard lots of recommendations for WC trailers. That's a nice clean interior you have there.

What do you have for a tow vehicle?   Did you ever weigh the loaded trailer?

About the brakes, I have looked into it and they can be added. Not sure what the end cost would be, but I think around a couple hundred dollars.
 The Captain and Crew Finally got their stuff together. 
 Now if they can only remember where they put it.   Rolleyes

I have a 6 cylinder Nissan Frontier.  That was the other issue.  Not enough power for the steep inclines and not heavy enough on the down grades. I think even a half ton 8 cylinder would have made a big difference, but it's what I had. I don't know what the weight of the trailer is but it must be quite heavy.

I'll be towing with 1/2T Ford van with the 351 V8 but it's 25 years old, so I want to keep the tow weight down. I could probably get by with a 6x10 but I kinda want to do something like this and need the couple of extra feet:
