It's their own fault for calling themselves that.  My understanding is it was a branding move since socialism was the buzzword of the times.

Today they might call themselves the National Quantum party, or National Digital party or, perhaps too on point,  National Social Media party.

These are all political positions- the dimmest of students would admit  early bandings together would have be 'socialist.' Also a town wall, maintaining a fire pump, or building a road.

- where the word 'society' comes from.

People who wish to control something introduce a label (endearing or derogatory, as needed) to remove any need for us to think.

And it really works

Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Holland and the Scandinavian countries are not socialist countries just because they have a national healthcare system, a good social net, and subsidized or free education. They are democratic countries who value each other and are focussed on improving the well being of everybody, so taxes are higher, and most people that live there understand that.

Flying kurbmaster, You are quite correct now if only America would follow suit and provide a national healthcare system and low cost education for its citizens it would be a fantastic country. There are way too many people doing without healthcare due to it either being expensive and or people are just going into debt. And the school fees most everyone who has an education don't even get into the field that they've studied in and yet they have fees that they're paying for life.
I dont say much about these topics as I keep my a**holey opinion to myself. I will say that most countries that can afford to have nationalized health care and lower cost education dont pay much of their GDP for either defense or support the UN and give billions to other countries. If the US stopped all that, they’d have the extra cash to fund a lot of social programs... Canada (of which I am a resident) has the advantage of having the US as the defense buffer.

What Hugo Chavez of Venezuela forgot is that once you run out of other peoples money to spend, your economy crashes.
