Alternator to house wiring - Blacktank - 03-14-2018

damn stuffs expensive

the factory wire they used for alt to house battery i think is just big enough to use but i cant put terminals on it and dont really want to invest in the proper tools to do so

is it best to just eat it and spend $100-$150 for customs? from one of these places http://www.bestboatwire.com/

going to need engine to house batteries,7-8 feet
battery to battery +-
battery + to shut off switch and switch to fuse box
battery - to fuse box
i have an car negative cable i can use for battery to frame

whats the difference between guage 2 and 2/0?

RE: Wire - justjim - 03-14-2018

You have to hit someone many more times with 2 gauge to beat them to death than you do 2/0. Wink

The diameter of 2-gauge wire is 0.2576 inch. The diameter of 2/0-wire is 0.3648 inch.

Gary, where are you? I have a 16 ton crimp tool.

nw oregon,a long ways away

the stuff i have measured in at just under 0.20 so not big enough

Thank you Gary and JJ ! I will bookmark that sight.
I guess this means that regular battery cables from the auto salvage yard spliced together would not be the best option. ?

RE: Wire - Blacktank - 03-14-2018

i was thinking of scavenging battery cables for the short stuff and finding someone local with proper crimper

RE: Wire - S Cello - 03-14-2018

I could loan you my 16 ton crimper, just gotta check the USPS cost for shipping it. Let me know if you want to go that way.

Price crimpers on Amazon. I spent less than $40 for mine.

would one of these cheapies work?

it would be about the same price to buy everything and do it yourself as custom made but you would have a pair of crimpers to keep

RE: Wire - GotSmart - 03-14-2018

Yes. I have the yellow handle ones.   It is so nice to be able to make wires to fit.

Look at the price of copper speaker grade wire. Usually much less and better made than battery cable.

RE: Wire - S Cello - 03-14-2018

Yes, I have the top one, the blue one and it worked fine on my few crimps. Surely GS has done many more crimps with his yellow one.
